Advance Press

Printers - Brochures, Reports, Letterheads,
International recognition will advance Australia's printing reputation.

At a time when "innovation" and "creativity" have become buzz-words for businesses everywhere, one Perth based printing company has redefined the parameters for creative thinking in the graphic arts industry.

Advance Press has blitzed an international field to take out the coveted "Best of Category" award in the 1999 Premier print Awards in USA. More popularly known as "The Benny" the award recognises excellence in design and printing quality. Regarded by many as the pinnacle award for the graphic arts industry, the Best of category is welcome recognition of the company's commitment to quality and technical excellence.

Each year, thousands of entries pour in to the open competition, from hundreds of companies around the world. According to the judges, 1999 offered one of the stiffest competitions in years with a total of 5,647 entries from 944 companies and 15 countries.

Advance took out the trophy for Business & Annual Reports, four colours+colours throughout, for a flagship document produced for Invest Australia, a Federal Government initiative.

Working in collaboration with leading Australia designer, Marco Dabala, Advance Press was selected by the Australian Government following an open, national tender attracting interest from a wide range of design and print specialists.

Kerry Harford, Joint General Manager at Advance outlined the winning project.

"The document's aim is to create overseas interest in Australia as a long-term investment opportunity. Advance and Dabala have achieved this with a unique design approach that incorporates finishing standards that are a credit to the craftsmanship of our production team and printers."
Advance Press has an established reputation for solving the most difficult printing challenges and is equipped with leading edge technology to handle the most sophisticated printing effects with confidence. In this case, entirely new printing techniques were developed to translate the designers vision onto paper.Advance Press

The multiple layers of graphic detail culminated in one of the largest documents ever output by Imagesetter's at Perth firm, Multicolour.

The cover was multi-level foil embossed to create the Australian crest. Numerous PMS colours were used to create the special effects in both the gloss and matt text areas. The job ran on Advance's six colour Heidelburg CD 102-6 printing press, a decision Kerry harford says was pretty straightforward.
"The CD is the best machine for this high-end type of work," he says. "Its precision is consistent and absolute."

"Furthermore, due to the mixed paper stocks in the text, the document could not be bound by conventional method. It was in fact oversewn down the face of the spine by hand fed industrial sewing machines to achieve a secure binding."

Advance's achievement was recognised by The Hon Richard Court MLA, then Premier of Western Australia. Mr Court wrote to Advance following the announcement of the company's success. In his letter, Mr Court said, "I have seen your winning entry , it is indeed an outstanding work. The fact that your entry was the only Australian winner is an acknowledgement of the skill and excellence of the printing industry in this State. This Award adds to the State's imposing list of successes."

A six-page fold out presentation folder was also produced to compliment the document. The workmanship on this has been awarded both Gold PICA and National Print Awards for best of category.Advance Press
